Disclosure Requirements
Disclosure by manufacturers and importers of cigarettes to government authorities of information on the contents and/or ingredients used in the manufacture of their cigarettes
Uncertain
The law requires importers of tobacco products, "at the time of importing tobacco products," to inform the Government about the ingredients in the imported tobacco products and "the amounts of each element used in the importable ingredients." (Although this provision does not require disclosure by manufacturers, it is our understanding that no products are manufactured in Bangladesh.)
Because the law requires reporting to "the Government," it is unclear which agency has regulatory responsibility. The law does not explicitly require disclosure by product type and for each brand within a brand family.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 10 and the FCTC Arts. 9 & 10 Partial Guidelines in that it requires disclosure by importers to government authorities of information on the contents and/or ingredients used in the manufacture of their cigarettes. In addition, although the law requires reporting and disclosure "at the time of importing," the drafters of the law should consider requiring reporting and disclosure at regular specified intervals to aid in implementation and enforcement. Finally, the law should specify the government body with regulatory authority and to which reporting is required.

Disclosed information readily available to the public
