COMMENTS: Law No. 3029 approves the ratification of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
Supreme Decree No. 29376, Regulations to Law No. 3029 on the FCTC
COMMENTS: Supreme Decree No. 29376 contains the Regulation to Law No. 3029 on the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The Regulation addresses smoke free areas; restrictions on advertising, promotion and sponsorship; health warnings and other packaging and labeling requirements; sales restrictions; and related sanctions. These provisions remain in effect to the extent that they do not conflict with Law No. 1280.

COMMENTS: Circular No. 174 Announcing Specific Regulations for the Administration of Law No. 3029 provides additional regulations to implement Law No. 2039 and Supreme Decree No. 29376. The Regulations entered into force on October 3, 2009, 60 days after the date of publication. These provisions remain in effect to the extent that they do not conflict with Law No. 1280.

Law No. 1280 on Prevention and Control of the Consumption of Tobacco Products
COMMENTS: Law No. 1280 prohibits smoking in indoor areas; bans nearly all forms of direct or indirect tobacco advertising and promotion; and will increase the size of health warnings required on packaging and labeling once new health warnings have been issued. The law took effect on August 15, 2020, 180 days after the date of publication.
