Tobacco Control Act, No. 6/2002 (as amended)
COMMENTS: The Tobacco Control Act 2002, Act No. 6/2002, is the primary tobacco control law in Iceland. It governs, among other things, smoke free environments; tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship; and tobacco packaging and labeling. Both the Original Language version and the English translation of the law include amendments through December 2023 (Act No. 110/2023).
Regulations No. 236 of 2003 on Warning Labelling on Tobacco and Measurement and Maximum Yields of Harmful Substances
COMMENTS: Regulations No. 236 of 2003 on warning labelling on tobacco and measurement and maximum yields of harmful substances were issued under the Tobacco Control Act of 2002, and implement provisions on health warnings on tobacco products and measurement and yields of harmful substances. These regulations were repealed by Regulations No. 790 of 2011.

COMMENTS: Regulations No. 326 of 2007 on smoking restrictions were issued under the Tobacco Control Act of 2002, and implement provisions on smoking in indoor workplaces, public transportation, and indoor public places.

COMMENTS: Regulations No. 325 of 2007 on retail sale of tobacco were issued under the Tobacco Control Act of 2002 and regulate the retail sale of tobacco, including point of sale advertising and product display.

These regulations require pictorial warnings.

COMMENTS: Regulation No. 803 of 2018 was repealed by Regulation No. 992 of 2022.

COMMENTS: The Act on Electronic Cigarettes and Refill Containers for Electronic Cigarettes, No. 87/2018, is the primary law regulating e-cigarettes, including their use in public, restrictions on advertising and promotion, and requirements related to packaging and labeling and disclosures.
The Act was subsequently amended by Act No. 56/2022.

COMMENTS: Regulation No. 255 of 2019 was repealed by Regulation No. 991 of 2022.
Act Amending the Act on Electronic Cigarettes and Refill Containers for Electronic Cigarettes (No. 87/2018), No. 56/2022
COMMENTS: Act No. 56/2022 amends Act No. 87/2018 to cover nicotine products in addition to e-cigarettes and refill containers. Among the changes is a new title - Act on Nicotine Products, Electronic Cigarettes and Refill Containers for Electronic Cigarettes.
