COMMENTS: Public Transport Law of 2008 (Article 49) prohibits smoking by drivers and passengers in public transport vehicles. The English language file contains only a relevant excerpt of the law.

COMMENTS: Public Health Law No. 47 of 2008 addresses many public health topics. Chapter 12 of the Public Health Law, which is the primary piece of tobacco control legislation in Jordan, addresses smoke free places, tobacco advertising and promotion, and tobacco packaging and labeling. It also provides penalties for violations of these provisions. The English language file contains only relevant excerpts of the law.

COMMENTS: Traffic Law, No. 49 of 2008, among other things, prohibits smoking in public transport vehicles (Article 39) and smoking in school buses (Article 38).

COMMENTS: Implementing Instrument on Smoking in Malls is a letter from the Ministry of Health to the General Manager of the Amman Mall requesting the mall manager to implement the smoking ban in the Amman Mall.

COMMENTS: Implementing Instrument on Smoking in Airports is a letter from the Ministry of Health to the airport authority requesting the airport authority to implement designated smoking areas in restaurants.

COMMENTS: Implementing Instrument on Smoking in Fast Food Restaurants is a letter from the Ministry of Health to the Jordan Restaurant Association requesting the association to implement the ban on smoking in all fast-food restaurants.

COMMENTS: Implementing Instrument on Smoking in Restaurants is a letter from the Ministry of Health to the Jordan Tourist Restaurant Association requesting the association to implement designated smoking areas in tourist restaurants, with at least 50% of seats designated for non-smokers.

COMMENTS: Jordanian Standard 466/2012 implements the tobacco packaging and labeling provision in the Public Health Law (Article 56). These implementing regulations set forth, among other things, labeling requirements; the content, format and placement of health warnings; and a prohibition on misleading terms and descriptors.

COMMENTS: Tobacco Products Display Regulation, Regulation Number 73 of 2013, implements Art. 63.B.2 of the Public Health Law, which states that tobacco products may only be displayed in accordance with regulations. The regulations allow the display of tobacco products only in display units, with no writing, logos, trademarks or other advertising on the unit. A price list with product name and price is allowed. The regulations require the Minister to issue instructions to implement the regulations, including the maximum number of display units allowed and requirements for such units.

COMMENTS: Instruction No. 1 of 2015 on the Required Criteria and Conditions for the Display of Tobacco Products at Points of Sale was issued under the Tobacco Products Display Regulation of 2013 and specifies the requirements of permitted displays at points of sale. This instruction was amended by Instruction No. 2 of 2015.

COMMENTS: Instruction No. 2 of 2015 on the Amended Instructions of the Required Criteria and Conditions for the Display of Tobacco Products at Points of Sale amend some of the provisions in Instruction No. 1 of 2015 related to the requirements of permitted displays at points of sale.

COMMENTS: Law No. 11 of 2017 on the Amendment to the Public Health Law provides a range of penalties for public health violations. 

COMMENTS: The Principles of Tobacco and Nicotine Products, Including Electronic Ones are requirements issued by the Jordan Food and Drug Administration that must be met for the registration and approval of electronic tobacco and nicotine products. These include restrictions on specified ingredients and additives and required health warnings on product packaging, among others.

COMMENTS: The Terms of Display, Sale and Storage of E-Vapor and E-Liquid Products and Electronically Heated Tobacco Products were issued by the Jordan Food and Drug Administration. The Terms include restrictions on minimum sales age, product display, internet sales, and location-based sales, among other things.
