Smoke Free Status of Indoor Public Places, Workplaces, and Public Transport
All indoor workplaces
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Because hotel guestrooms and casinos are workplaces for some people, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should prohibit smoking in all indoor workplaces, including hotel guestrooms and casinos.
All indoor public places
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Due to these exemptions, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should prohibit smoking in all indoor public places, including hotel guestrooms and casinos.
All public transport
Smoking is prohibited on all public transport.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to public transport.
Government facilities
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in government facilities.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to government facilities.
Private offices
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in private offices.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to private offices.
Hospitals
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. In addition, the law specifically prohibits smoking in hospitals, clinics, and other health institutions.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to hospitals.
Residential healthcare facilities - public areas
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. In addition, the law specifically prohibits smoking in hospitals, clinics, and other health institutions, which is interpreted to include public areas of residential healthcare facilities.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to public areas of residential healthcare facilities.
Non-residential healthcare facilities
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. In addition, the law specifically prohibits smoking in hospitals, clinics, and other health institutions, which includes non-residential healthcare facilities.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to non-residential healthcare facilities.
Childcare facilities/preschools
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. In addition, the law specifically prohibits smoking in “any classroom, corridor, yard or appurtenance of a school, day home or similar premises used by children under eighteen years of age.” “School” is defined to include “a kindergarten, nursery school or similar premises.” Therefore, smoking is prohibited in childcare facilities and preschools.

Primary and secondary schools
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. In addition, the law specifically prohibits smoking in “any classroom, corridor, yard or appurtenance of a school, day home or similar premises used by children under eighteen years of age.” Therefore, smoking is prohibited in primary and secondary schools.

Universities/vocational facilities

Shops
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in shops.

Cultural facilities
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in cultural facilities.

Indoor stadium/arenas
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in indoor stadiums and arenas.

Restaurants
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in restaurants.

Bars/pubs/nightclubs

Casinos
Designated smoking rooms are permitted in casinos. Therefore, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.

Hotels/lodging - public areas
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in public areas of hotels and lodging.

Hotels/lodgings - guest rooms
Smoking is permitted in individual rooms in hotels and other lodging which are solely occupied by smoking patrons.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should prohibit smoking in all guest rooms in hotels and lodging facilities.
Prisons/detention facilities - public areas
Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas except individual hotel guestrooms and designated smoking rooms in casinos. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in public areas of prisons and detention facilities.

Trains, buses and other shared ground transportation other than taxis
Smoking is prohibited on all public transport, including trains, buses and other shared ground transportation.

Taxis (for-hire vehicle)
Smoking is prohibited on all public transport, including taxis.

Private vehicles in the presence of a minor
Smoking is prohibited in a private vehicle in the presence of a minor (defined as under the age of 16).
