Penalties
Advertising and Promotion
Ministry of Health
The law states that anyone who violates the provisions on advertising and promotion is subject to imprisonment for no longer than six months, a fine of no more than 100,000 Riyals, or both. The violation must also be published in two daily newspapers. In addition, the court may also order the closure of the establishment for a period of one to three months. Presumably, these penalties will be operational once an implementing decree has been issued by the Minister.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 13 and FCTC Art. 13 in relation to penalties for violations of advertising and promotion laws. To more fully align, the law should provide for increased penalties for repeat offenses.
