Smoke Free Status of Indoor Public Places, Workplaces, and Public Transport
All indoor workplaces
The law restricts smoking in all indoor workplaces to designated smoking rooms meeting certain conditions. The law permits smoking in places where there is highly efficient ventilation equipment; where minors are prohibited; where a sign is clearly displayed that the space is for tobacco use only; and where a separate place is provided for non-tobacco users for the same purpose. Accordingly, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should prohibit smoking in all indoor workplaces.

These conditions cannot be met in some forms of public transport, such as taxis and commercial aircraft, meaning these forms of transport are 100% smoke free. In other forms of public transport, however, smoking is restricted. Accordingly, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should prohibit smoking on all public transport.
Government facilities

Generally, the law restricts smoking in closed places to designated smoking rooms meeting certain conditions. It is possible the smoking is not allowed in hotel guest rooms because these spaces would not qualify as solely for the purpose of tobacco use. However, because hotel rooms are not explicitly addressed, the regulatory status code “Uncertain” is given.

Prisons/detention facilities - public areas

Because these conditions could likely be met in at least some means of shared ground transport, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.

Taxis (for-hire vehicle)
The law restricts smoking in public transport to designated smoking areas meeting certain conditions. The law permits smoking in places where there is highly efficient ventilation equipment; where minors are prohibited; where a sign is clearly displayed that the space is for tobacco use only; and where a separate place is provided for non-tobacco users for the same purpose. However, because these conditions could not be met in taxis, the law is interpreted as prohibiting smoking in taxis.

Commercial aircraft
The law restricts smoking in public transport to designated smoking areas meeting certain conditions. The law permits smoking in places where there is highly efficient ventilation equipment; where minors are prohibited; where a sign is clearly displayed that the space is for tobacco use only; and where a separate place is provided for non-tobacco users for the same purpose. However, because these conditions could not be met on commercial aircraft, the law is interpreted as prohibiting smoking on commercial aircraft.

Commercial watercraft
The law restricts smoking in public transport to designated smoking areas meeting certain conditions. Because these conditions could likely be met on board commercial watercraft, the regulatory status code “Smoking is Restricted” is given.
