Health Warnings/Messages Features
The law requires that health warnings must contain a picture/pictogram and text warnings that occupy at least 50% of the two principal display areas of the tobacco product package. The text warnings must be in one of the languages of Burundi, and tobacco products manufactured in Burundi must have the health warnings in Kirundi in addition to the international languages recognized in matters of commerce. The procedures for health warnings and messages are to be determined by order of the Minister of Public Health. As of the date of this review, the Minister of Public Health has not yet issued the orders.
To fully align with FCTC Art. 11 and the FCTC Art. 11 Guidelines, the law should require warnings that include a variety of messages to be displayed at any given time, and require that the warnings rotate on a regular basis.
