COMMENTS: Ministry of Public Health Decision No. 0222 is relevant to tobacco control because it banned smoking in all public health related buildings. This includes, but is not limited to a prohibition on smoking in the Ministry of Public Health or any building that runs related services; publicly run hospitals and publicly run institutions that train healthcare professionals.

COMMENTS: Law No. 2006/018 regulates tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship.

COMMENTS: The Ministry of Economy and Finances Circular No. 07/788 on Prohibiting Smoking in Ministry Buildings imposes a duty for all Ministry buildings to become smoke free.

COMMENTS: Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Commerce Order No. 967 regulates tobacco product packaging and labeling measures. This order was replaced by Joint Order No. 0001 of January 3, 2018 Laying Down the Rules for the Packaging and Labeling of Tobacco Products.

COMMENTS: The Ministry of Secondary Education Circular No. 19/07 creates non-smoking areas and anti-smoking clubs in schools.

COMMENTS: The Ministry of Higher Education Circular No. 0001 on Tobacco Control in the Central Services Ministry of Higher Education and Public Academic Institutions imposes a requirement for higher educational institutions to be 100% smoke free.

COMMENTS: Law No. 2016/007 of July 12, 2016 governs criminal offenses and penalties.

COMMENTS: The Ministry of Public Health issued the Guidelines for Placing Health Warnings on Tobacco Product Packaging to assist with implementation of the provisions of Joint Order No. 0001 of January 3, 2018 Laying Down the Rules for the Packaging and Labeling of Tobacco Products. Although the new warnings were scheduled to appear on packaging beginning on January 3, 2019, it is our understanding that the government delayed implementation to June 12, 2019. COMMENTS: Joint Order No. 0001 of January 3, 2018 Laying Down the Rules for the Packaging and Labeling of Tobacco Products establishes the requirements related to pictorial health warning labels and other aspects of packaging and labeling. Although these requirements were scheduled to enter into force on January 3, 2019, it is our understanding that the government delayed implementation to June 12, 2019.

COMMENTS: Decision No. 2424 establishes the next set of combined text and picture health warnings required to appear on tobacco product packaging.

COMMENTS: Order No. 501 directs appropriate administrative units to take action based upon the toxicity level found in seized samples of waterpipe tobacco, commonly called "shisa."

COMMENTS: Order No. 024 prohibits the sale and use of waterpipe tobacco, commonly called "shisha."
