Smoke Free Status of Indoor Public Places, Workplaces, and Public Transport
All indoor workplaces
The law prohibits smoking in schools, public universities and in all ministry structures, but does not otherwise provide for 100% smoke free indoor workplaces.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should require all parts of all indoor workplaces to be 100% smoke free.
All indoor public places

The law does not restrict smoking in any form of public transport.

Government facilities
Law No. 7/788/CF /L/MINEFI/DRH/SDP/SP prohibits smoking in all Ministry buildings. This is interpreted as including many government facilities, but not all government facilities.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, smoking should be prohibited in all government facilities.
Private offices
The law does not restrict smoking in private offices.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should mandate that all indoor public places and workplaces be 100% smoke free without exception, including shops.
Hospitals
The law restricts smoking in publicly run hospitals. There is no prohibition against smoking in private hospitals.

Residential healthcare facilities - public areas
The law restricts smoking in publicly run residential healthcare facilities. There is no prohibition against smoking in privately run residential healthcare facilities.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should mandate that all indoor public places and workplaces be 100% smoke free without exception, including public areas of residential healthcare facilities.
Non-residential healthcare facilities
The law restricts smoking in publicly run non-residential healthcare facilities. However, there is no prohibition against smoking in privately run non-residential healthcare facilities.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should mandate that all indoor public places and workplaces be 100% smoke free without exception, including non-residential healthcare facilities.
Childcare facilities/preschools
The law does not restrict smoking in childcare facilities.
To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should mandate that all indoor public places and workplaces be 100% smoke free without exception, including childcare facilities.
Primary and secondary schools
CIRCULAR-LETTER No. 19/07 MINESEC/SG/DRH/SDSSAPPS prohibits smoking in schools and educational institutions. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in primary and secondary schools.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to primary and secondary schools.
Universities/vocational facilities
CIRCULAR No. 0001/MINESUP /SG/ DPDSU prohibits smoking in universities and places of higher education. Therefore, smoking is prohibited in universities and vocational facilities.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to universities and vocational facilities.
Shops
The law does not restrict smoking in shops.

Cultural facilities
The law does not restrict smoking in cultural facilities.

Indoor stadium/arenas
The law does not restrict smoking in indoor stadiums and arenas.

Restaurants
The law does not restrict smoking in restaurants.

To align with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines, the law should mandate that all indoor public places and workplaces be 100% smoke free without exception, including casinos, if they exist in Cameroon.
Hotels/lodging - public areas
The law does not restrict smoking in the public areas of hotels.
