The law prohibits using or carrying an activated e-cigarette in most indoor public places, workplaces, or public transport. While Schedule 2, Part 1 provides an extensive list of types of places where the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted, the law makes several exceptions in Schedule 2, Part 2. These include hotel rooms, designated areas in airports and correctional/detention facilities, and tasting rooms in cigar shops. Additionally, there is a limited exemption under the Road Traffic Regulations permitting use of e-cigarettes in taxis and buses when privately hired.

Advertising of smoking products, which is defined to include e-cigarettes (alternative smoking products), is broadly banned under the law. The law provides a list of promotional practices that are prohibited, which allows for other promotional practices or leaves uncertain whether those other promotional practices are allowed.
