Ingredient
“Ingredient” means any substance or component other than the leaves and other natural or unprocessed parts of the tobacco plant, used in the manufacture or preparation of a tobacco product and present in the final product, including in an altered form, including the paper, filter, dyes and adhesives.
The definition of “ingredient” is significant because manufacturers and importers of tobacco products are required to disclose certain information about the ingredients of their products.
Includes tobacco, components (e.g. paper, filter), including materials used to manufacture those components, additives, processing aids, residual substances found in tobacco (following storage and processing), and substances that migrate from the packaging material into the product (contaminants are not part of the ingredients). Nicotine
“Nicotine” means nicotinic alkaloids.
The definition of “nicotine” is significant because the law regulates emissions including nicotine.
Tar
“Tar or condensate” means the condensate of raw anhydrous smoke that does not contain nicotine.
