Content regulation
The law does not regulate the contents of cigarettes; therefore, there are no specified penalties.
To align with FCTC Art. 9 and the FCTC Arts. 9 & 10 Guidelines, the law should regulate the contents of cigarettes and impose sanctions for violations.
Disclosure requirement
(e.g., seizure of the product, publication of the violation/violator)
Manufacturer, Importer
Violations of disclosure requirements are subject to any of the following: a) cancellation or suspension of a tobacco license; b) a fine between 500 - 100,000 Rufiyaa; and/or c) seizure or forfeiture of goods or things used in the perpetration of an offense. The penalty prescribed for the offense shall be imposed separately for each offense committed. The penalty imposed for violations shall be increased for every repeat offense.
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 10 and the FCTC Arts. 9 & 10 Partial Guidelines in that the law imposes sanctions for disclosure violations.
