“Electronic cigarette” means a product that can be used for inhalation of vapors that may or may not contain nicotine through a mouthpiece, or any other component of this product, including a cartridge or tank and the device without a cartridge or tank. Electronic cigarettes may be single-use products or may be refilled using a refill container or tank or may be refilled with single-use cartridges.

For the purpose of this review, we will be using the term “e-cigarette” when referring to “electronic cigarette.”

“Public transport” means any vehicle used for public passenger transport, usually for a fee.

“Member state” means Member States of the European Union and of the European Economic Area.

“Refill bottle” means a container with liquid that may or may not contain nicotine, which can be used to refill an e-cigarette.

“Advertisement for electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers” means any form of commercial communications with the aim or direct or indirect effect of promoting electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers.

“Sponsorship for the promotion of electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers” means any form of public or private contribution to events or activities, or in favor of a person, if this contribution has either the aim or the direct or indirect effect of promoting electronic cigarettes and/or refill.

“Professionals in the trade of electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers” means any natural or legal person involved in the manufacture or marketing of electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers, or professional counseling relative to electronic cigarettes and/or refill containers.

“Electronic device for heating tobacco and smokeless tobacco substitutes inhalation” means a device used for heated tobacco products or smokeless tobacco substitutes inhalation.
