Smoke Free Status of Indoor Public Places, Workplaces, and Public Transport
All indoor workplaces
The law bans smoking in an exhaustive list of indoor public places, indoor workplaces, and means of public transport and includes the catchall “public and private workspaces.”
The law aligns with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines with respect to banning smoking in all indoor workplaces.

All public transport
The law bans smoking in airplanes, helicopters, buses, trains, taxis, boats, and all other means of public transportation, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Government facilities
The law specifically bans smoking on government grounds, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Private offices
The law specifically bans smoking in private working spaces, offices, and office buildings, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Hospitals
The law specifically bans smoking in healthcare facilities, clinics, and hospitals, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Residential healthcare facilities - public areas
The law specifically bans smoking in healthcare facilities, clinics, and hospitals, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Non-residential healthcare facilities
The law specifically bans smoking in healthcare facilities, clinics, and hospitals, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Childcare facilities/preschools
The law specifically bans smoking in buildings and places of educational institutions of all levels and childcare institutions, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Primary and secondary schools
The law specifically bans smoking in buildings and places of educational institutions of all levels and childcare institutions, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Universities/vocational facilities
The law specifically bans smoking in buildings and places of educational institutions of all levels and childcare institutions, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Shops
The law specifically bans smoking in small commercial establishments, including shops, markets, market squares, and shopping malls, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Cultural facilities
The law specifically bans smoking in cinemas, theaters, concert halls, and all other places meant for indoor amusements, museums, as well as in all workplaces, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Indoor stadium/arenas
The law specifically bans smoking in places for sport, education, and recreation, as well as in all workplaces, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Restaurants
The law specifically bans smoking in cafés, discotheques, clubs, cafeterias, pubs, bars, lounges, and restaurants, including all spaces that are contributing and/or part of these facilities’ functioning, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Bars/pubs/nightclubs
The law specifically bans smoking in cafés, discotheques, clubs, cafeterias, pubs, bars, lounges, and restaurants, including all spaces that are contributing and/or part of these facilities’ functioning, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Casinos
The law specifically bans smoking in casinos, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the Art. 8 Guidelines.
Hotels/lodging - public areas
The law specifically bans smoking in hotels, motels, guesthouses, and all other accommodation facilities, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Hotels/lodgings - guest rooms
The law bans smoking in hotels, motels, guesthouses, and all other accommodation facilities. Although it does not specifically address guest rooms, these are workplaces and the law bans smoking in indoor public and private workplaces, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Prisons/detention facilities - public areas
Prisons and detention facilities are not included in the list of workplaces and public places where smoking is banned. However, prisons are typically government facilities and are workplaces, and smoking is prohibited in both of these places. Thus, the law is interpreted as prohibiting smoking in prison and detention facilities, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Trains, buses and other shared ground transportation other than taxis
The law bans smoking in airplanes, helicopters, buses, trains, taxis, boats, and all other means of public transportation, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Taxis (for-hire vehicle)
The law specifically bans smoking in taxis, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Commercial aircraft
The law bans smoking in airplanes, helicopters, buses, trains, taxis, boats, and all other means of public transportation, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Commercial watercraft
The law bans smoking in airplanes, helicopters, buses, trains, taxis, boats, and all other means of public transportation, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
Public transport facilities (waiting areas for mass transit)
The law specifically bans smoking in public transport terminals, including seaports, river ports, airports, train and bus stations and waiting rooms, in alignment with FCTC Art. 8 and the FCTC Art. 8 Guidelines.
