Health Warnings/Messages Features
The law requires that the following warning be displayed on 30% of the front surface in Arabic, in a clearly legible manner: “Smoking is Harmful to Health and Constitutes a Major Cause of Lung Cancer, Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases. It also causes Harm to Pregnant Women and the Fetus”. The law does not require images or rotation.
The law does not meet the minimum requirements of FCTC Art. 11 in that the warnings occupy at least 30% of the two principal display areas of the package. The law should also require warnings be composed of pictures and text, include a variety of messages to be displayed at any given time, and require that the warnings rotate on a regular basis.
